Welcome to Roots to Blossom Homestead — a place where our family is learning to live more simply, grow our own food, and connect deeply with the land around us.
We’re Joshua and Samantha, raising our two children, Walden and Theodore, with a heart for self-sufficiency, hard work, and a love for nature. What began as a dream to become more independent and intentional with how we live has grown into a homestead full of animals, gardens, and endless learning experiences.
Our goal has always been to create a life where our children grow up outside — hands in the dirt, feet on the ground, and hearts connected to the natural world — while learning the skills that help a family thrive.
Why We Started Our Homestead

We started our homestead with the desire to become more self-sufficient and learn how to live off the land as much as possible. We wanted to grow our own food, raise animals, preserve what we harvest, and understand where everything comes from.
Just as importantly, we wanted our kids to grow up experiencing childhood the way it used to be — climbing trees, exploring nature, and spending their days outside instead of in front of screens.
Roots to Blossom Homestead is about growth — not just of food, but of knowledge, skills, and family memories.
And we’re just getting started.
Life On Our Homestead

Our homestead continues to grow each year. Right now, we:
• Keep bees for honey and pollination
• Raise chickens, guineas, turkeys, and rabbits
• Tend to fruit trees and berry bushes
• Grow a large annual vegetable garden
• Forage wild foods right from our land
We love learning new ways to become more sustainable and dream of expanding our homestead even bigger in the future.
Samantha — From Scratch & From the Garden
Samantha has a passion for cooking and baking from scratch, using fresh ingredients — many straight from our garden.
She loves:
• Creating simple, wholesome meals
• Baking sweet treats for the family
• Teaching the kids how to cook and bake
• Preserving food through canning, dehydrating, fermenting, and freezing
The kitchen is where garden harvests turn into nourishing meals and where so many family memories are made.
Joshua — Planning, Building & Growing
Joshua loves observing nature, designing garden layouts, and building structures that help the homestead function.
Some of his favorite projects include:
• Raised garden beds
• Chicken coops and chicken tractors
• Planning planting designs for each season
He enjoys watching the land evolve and finding ways to make everything work together naturally.
Walden & Theodore — Growing Up on the Homestead
Walden and Theodore spend most of their days outside — exploring, playing in the dirt, and discovering the world around them.
In the summertime, you’ll often find them climbing the mulberry tree, barefoot and smiling, eating mulberries straight from the branches.
They love helping in the garden, checking on the animals, and learning alongside us as we grow our homestead.
Our Dream for the Future
We have big dreams for Roots to Blossom Homestead — expanding our gardens, growing more food, raising more animals, and continuing to learn how to live as sustainably as possible.
More than anything, we hope to inspire others to slow down, grow what they can, cook from scratch, and enjoy the beauty of a simpler life.
